Wheat Ridge Among Top Cities on the Rise in Colorado
Posted on: August 6, 2014
NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, recently conducted a study to find the fastest-growing cities in Colorado – and Wheat Ridge ranked sixth.
To find Colorado’s fastest-growing communities, NerdWallet evaluated 31 cities, towns and census-designated places and examined the following variables:
• Population growth
• Employment growth
• Income growth
Wheat Ridge, located slightly west of downtown Denver, saw the state’s second-fastest income increase from 2009 to 2012, up 17% to $45,025. In addition to jobs in Denver, the largest employers in Wheat Ridge are Exempla Healthcare, Rocky Mountain Bottle Co. and UTI Star Guide Corp., a manufacturer of wire and tubing for medical devices and electronics. The city is home to more than 20 parks and a greenbelt trail system, offering an ideal recreational haven.
“Colorado’s cities on the rise are clustered along Interstate 25 stretching from Fort Collins to Pueblo,” said Maggie Clark, an analyst with NerdWallet. “The cities near Colorado Springs had the fastest rates of growth in population and median income, and the entire region is projected to continue growing rapidly in the new decade,” Clark said.
Other places in the top ten include Castle Rock and Littleton. See the full study here.
