Scammers Attack West Metro Chamber:
Local Chamber gets “used” for attempted fraud

(Lakewood, CO) – Today, the West Metro Chamber announced they have been the target of fraud.

According to the Chamber, an unknown perpetrator has used the Chamber’s logo to create a letter asking unsuspecting businesses to send money. The letter also makes it appear as though the Chamber is working in favor of partisan endeavors.

“I am appalled that anyone would take advantage of our good name,” said West Metro Chamber CEO Pam Bales. “The good news, we were immediately alerted to this fraudulent act and have taken steps to alert the business community.”

“The West Chamber is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that has established an excellent reputation over the last 70 years,” continued Bales. “Our mission is clear: to support businesses and business interests in Jefferson County and the West Metro area. To have someone take advantage of our organization and our reputation is extremely disconcerting.”

According to Bales, the Chamber has alerted chamber members, area chamber of commerce, the Lakewood Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff, and the Attorney General’s consumer fraud division.

“In 2011, my business was going nowhere, so I decided to join the West Metro Chamber. Within the first month, I made so many connections that it really helped get my business off the ground. Now, years later, my business is going strong because of the West Metro Chamber, and the connections keep growing. This is a great place to start and/or grow a business.”
