Local Government Affairs Council Update: July 22, 2015

LGAC-Logo---WebThe West Chamber’s Local Government Affairs Council recently hosted the Economic Development and Urban Renewal Manager for the City of Wheat Ridge, Steve Art, who provided a briefing on economic projects being planned or taking place in that community.  We followed the State Legislature’s activities during the most recent session, particularly a bill we reviewed called the Colorado Crowdfunding Act, HB 15-1246, bipartisan legislation that would open up access for small local investors to support local start-ups, improving their access to capital without having to meet SEC registration requirements, which can be a barrier to start-ups.  The council recommended to the West Chamber Board that it support the principles contained in the act, and the legislation was enacted into law.  Implementing regulations are expected in early August from the State Division of Securities.

At our most recent meeting this month, we heard from a local community group, the Daniels Welchester Neighborhood Association, regarding their opposition to a pending permit application to the Lakewood Planning Commission to relocate a men’s correctional facility.  More information on that planning case with background materials can be found here.

“Moving back to the West Metro area after 5 years, I needed to reconnect with my community. The West Metro Chamber has provided just that. They offer a wide array of events and networking groups from happy hours for Young Professional groups to intimate Business 2 Business leads groups. Furthermore, the chamber creates events to connect with other chambers in the area further expanding network connections. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the staff who are friendly, well connected and always seeking ways to improve your experience within the chamber.”
